Q. Does Klein offer a Side Scan Sonar system for use with ROVs and/or AUVs?
A. Klein has two systems that are in use on Underwater Unmanned Vehicles (UUV). The Klein UUV 3500 is a single beam, dual-frequency lightweight system that offers high-resolution and excellent range. The Klein AUV 5000 is a high-resolution, dynamically- focused, multi-beam system that can be used on Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). Both systems are available with optional Bathymetry capabilities. Detailed specifications are available on this website.
Q. Can Klein Side Scan Sonar Systems be operated out of the water?
A. Yes, but only for short periods of time to allow functional testing on the deck. Typically, a Klein system should not be run for a maximum of 20 minutes in the air.
Q. How do I contact Klein for Support or Technical Questions?
A. If you prefer, you can use this website to ask questions. A trained technician will respond to all questions. Email support at firstname.lastname@example.org. Klein also offers 24/7 Telephone coverage. Klein also offers training courses on-site and at our Klein office that are available for those who wish to become experts in side scan usage and image/data interpretation.
Q. Why is a Multi-Beam Side Scan Sonar better than Multi-Pulse Side Scan?
A. Multi-beam side scan sonar technology provides the ability to tow the system at high speeds (from 10 to 15 knots depending on the model) while maintaining high-resolution bottom images. While Multi-Pulse technology also provides the ability to tow at high speeds, along track resolution is significantly sacrificed. For each additional pulse that is transmitted, along track resolution is degraded by a factor of two.
Q. What is the best responder to purchase for my System 3000?
A. Klein’s responder, Part Number 14103295 is fully integrated for use with a System 3000. You can use this website to request a specification sheet, pricing and availability.
Q. Can a Magnetometer be integrated with the Klein Side Scan Sonar?
A. Of course, Klein Systems 5000 V2, 3000, 3000H, and 5900 support the use of a Magnetometer.
Q. Does Klein offer a Sub-Bottom Profiler?
A. Yes. Klein offers a sub-bottom profiler that is used in concert with a System 3000. With the Klein sub-bottom profiler attached the system becomes a Side Scan/Sub Bottom Profiler System. All display data is viewed Top Side through use of Klein’s SonarPro software.
